The Research Behind
Emotionally Focused Therapy

A meaningful approach to therapy, grounded in research.

At True Vine Counseling, we believe that understanding our emotions and strengthening our relationships can create meaningful change. That's why Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is at the heart of the way we work.

EFT is an evidence-based approach to counseling grounded in decades of research on emotions, attachment, and human connection. Researchers have studied its effectiveness with couples, individuals, and families, helping us better understand how people heal, grow, and develop healthier relationships.

We want you to feel confident not only in the people you choose to work with, but also in the approach behind the care you receive.

What Makes EFT Evidence-Based?

When you're looking for a therapist, you may hear the phrase “evidence-based treatment”. But what does that actually mean?

An evidence-based approach is one that has been studied by researchers to better understand whether it helps people and how it works. Rather than relying only on a therapist's personal experience or beliefs, evidence-based therapy draws from research, clinical expertise, and the needs of the person receiving care.

Emotionally Focused Therapy has a clear therapeutic framework and a growing body of research examining its effectiveness and the changes that happen during treatment.

EFT is grounded in three important areas:

Attachment Science

Research shows that our relationships and emotional bonds play a significant role in our physical and emotional well-being. EFT uses attachment theory to help us understand the ways we seek safety, connection, and support.

The Science of Emotion

🧠

EFT recognizes that emotions are important signals. They help us understand our experiences, identify our needs, and respond to the people around us.

Researchers have studied EFT across different populations and settings, examining changes in relationship satisfaction, emotional distress, and patterns of connection.
